Assam is a state in northeastern India known for its wildlife, archaeological sites and tea plantations. In the west, Guwahati, Assam’s largest city, features silk bazaars and the hilltop Kamakhya Temple. Umananda Temple sits on Peacock Island in the Brahmaputra river. The state capital, Dispur, is a suburb of Guwahati. The ancient pilgrimage site of Hajo and Madan Kamdev, the ruins of a temple complex, lie nearby.

IPL 2017 Player Auction to be Held on February 20

The players auction for the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be held on February 20 in Bengaluru. "The 2017 IPL player auction will be held on February 20 at the Ritz-Carlton in Bengaluru," a statement from the IPL read. "The IPL franchises will go into the player auction with a maximum of Rs 143.33 crore purse for 2017 season," it added. The teams can have a maximum of 27 players including nine overseas players. A maximum of 76 players, including 28 overseas, can be bought at the auction. The auction was delayed from the originally proposed date of February 4 due to the administrative changes in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the directions of the Supreme Court. BCCI's Committee of Administrators (COA) has already finalised the dates for the tournament with the league starting on April 5 and the final slated for May 21. Who's going to protect us from Facebook, US Senators ask Mark Zuckerberg

Mark Zuckerberg was confronted Wednesday by lawmakers scoffing at his apologies over lapses in protecting user privacy and pledges to do better, with one member asking, “Who’s going to protect us from Facebook?”  The question by Representative Janice Schakowsky, an Illinois Democrat, was echoed by members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee from both parties as the founder of Facebook Inc. was questioned on Capitol Hill for a second consecutive day.  While the criticism was bipartisan, members of the Democratic minority were more assertive in saying expanded government regulation is the answer.  Representative Mike Doyle, a Pennsylvania Democrat, said, “The only way we’re going to close this trust gap is through legislation that creates and empowers a sufficiently resourced expert oversight agency with rule-making authority to protect the digital privacy and ensure our companies protect their users’ data.”
